Modern competition is evolving faster than the institutions built to govern it.
Traditional sport was shaped in a commons-based world, where rules were inherited, formats were stable, and no single entity owned the arena of play. Emerging competitive systems do not operate under those conditions. Digital and IP-native disciplines exist within proprietary environments. Their formats are designed, licensed, and subject to lawful evolution. Attempting to govern such systems through legacy sporting models creates instability, jurisdictional tension, and structural fragility.
The Elympic Sports Federation recognises this distinction.
ESF does not seek to override intellectual property sovereignty, nor to impose authority over proprietary formats. Rights-holders retain ownership. Innovators retain control. Competitive ecosystems retain their creative freedom.
Our role is different.
