Drones

Supported & Enabled by the Elympic Sports Federation

Drones represent one of the most transformative technologies of the modern era, reshaping industries from logistics and defence to entertainment, education, and sport.

The Elympic Sports Federation (ESF) supports drone-based competition as a core future sport, bridging the gap between technology, athletic skill, engineering, and entertainment. ESF works alongside existing drone racing leagues and operators, while also developing next-generation, federation-led drone competitions designed to redefine what drone sport can become.

What Are Drone Sports?

Drone sports are competitive activities involving piloted or autonomous drones, operated within defined environments and rulesets. These competitions test a combination of:

  • Hand–eye coordination and reaction speed

  • Technical and engineering skill

  • Strategic thinking and spatial awareness

  • Teamwork, tactics, and innovation

Drone sports may include:

  • FPV (first-person-view) racing

  • Time-trial and obstacle-based formats

  • Team-based or elimination competitions

  • Autonomous or semi-autonomous drone challenges

They represent a new category of sport, where human skill and technology evolve together.

ESF’s Role in Drone Sports

The Elympic Sports Federation operates as a global enabling federation for drone competition.

Rather than replacing existing leagues or formats, ESF provides:

  • Structure where structure is needed

  • Alignment where fragmentation exists

  • Neutral governance where credibility matters

ESF’s objective is to help drone sports mature into a safe, globally aligned, and commercially sustainable competitive ecosystem, while preserving innovation and creative freedom.

A Dual-Track Approach: Collaboration & ESF-Led Competitions

ESF supports drone sports through two complementary pathways.

1. Collaboration with Existing Drone Leagues & Platforms

ESF works in conjunction with established drone racing leagues, tournament organisers, technology groups, and promoters worldwide.

Collaboration may include:

  • Co-hosted or supported competitions

  • Federation endorsement or sanctioning

  • International alignment across regions

  • Shared best practices in safety, structure, and professionalism

Participation with ESF is voluntary, flexible, and non-exclusive.

2. ESF Drone Competition Platforms

In parallel, the Elympic Sports Federation will develop and operate its own drone competition platforms and events where federation leadership will add value.

These ESF-led initiatives are designed to:

  • Establish next-generation competition formats

  • Introduce large-scale, spectator-ready drone events

  • Combine sport, technology, and entertainment

  • Support innovation beyond traditional racing models

Among these initiatives is a flagship ESF drone tournament concept, a highly differentiated competitive format designed to dramatically expand the global appeal of drone sport and accelerate mainstream adoption across gaming, esports, and live entertainment audiences.

This tournament represents a step-change for the drone industry, pushing drone competition beyond niche racing into a globally scalable sport and media property.

Grassroots to Elite Pathways

ESF strongly supports clear progression pathways in drone sports.

These pathways include:

  • Grassroots and community drone competitions

  • Amateur and development leagues

  • Semi-professional and regional circuits

  • Elite, international, and invitational tournaments

Whether delivered through partner leagues or ESF-led platforms, the goal is to ensure access, talent development, and long-term opportunity for pilots, teams, and innovators.

Community Support & Education

The Elympic Sports Federation recognises that sustainable sports ecosystems are built on education, community engagement, and accessible pathways.

Across all ESF-supported disciplines, ESF encourages:

  • Community-led participation and safe entry points

  • Education-linked programs and skills development

  • Responsible technology use and awareness

  • Talent discovery beyond elite competition

Through collaboration with clubs, schools, training providers, and industry partners, ESF supports initiatives that connect competition with real-world skills, career pathways, and future-focused education.

Safety, Technology & Integrity

Drone competition requires responsible governance.

Across all ESF-supported drone activity, collaborative or federation-operated, the Elympic Sports Federation promotes:

  • Clear safety frameworks and risk management

  • Responsible use of battery and flight technology

  • Transparent competition rules and officiating

  • Ethical standards and professional conduct

  • Sustainable and commercially viable event models

The Elympic Sports Federation provides governance where it adds value, while remaining adaptive as drone technology rapidly evolves.

Drones, Cities & the Future of Sport

Drone sports sit at the intersection of:

  • Advanced technology and engineering

  • Gaming and esports culture

  • Live entertainment and broadcast media

  • Education, STEM engagement (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics), and innovation

ESF supports drone competition as both a sport and a platform for future skills, capable of engaging youth, attracting global audiences, and positioning host cities at the forefront of innovation.
