The Elympic Sports Federation (ESF) proudly supports traditional esports as a core pillar of global competition, working alongside existing leagues, organisers, and platforms, while also developing federation-led competitions that add value.

What Are Traditional Esports?

Traditional esports refer to established, skill-based competitive video games played across PC, console, and mobile platforms. These competitions operate under defined rulesets and competitive formats and include:

• Grassroots and community tournaments

• Amateur and semi-professional leagues

• Professional and international competitions

• Publisher-supported and independent circuits

These ecosystems already thrive. ESF’s role is not to replace them, but to support, connect, and strengthen them within a global framework.

ESF operates as a global enabling federation.

Rather than acting as a controlling authority, ESF provides structure, alignment, and long-term vision, while respecting the independence of leagues, organisers, publishers, and communities.

ESF supports traditional esports by:

A Dual-Track Approach: Collaboration & ESF-Led Competitions

ESF supports traditional esports through two complementary pathways.

1. Collaboration with Existing Platforms & Leagues

ESF collaborates with established esports leagues, tournament organisers, promoters, and publishers worldwide.

This collaboration may include:

• Co-hosted or supported events

• Event endorsement or federation backing

• International alignment across regions

• Shared best practices in competition structure and integrity

Participation with ESF is voluntary, flexible, and non-exclusive.

2. ESF Competition Platforms

Where appropriate, ESF will also develop and operate its own competition platforms and events.

ESF-led competitions are designed to:

• Demonstrate best-practice competition standards

• Support regions or disciplines lacking infrastructure

• Pilot innovative formats and technologies

• Provide neutral, federation-governed environments

These competitions may operate independently or in partnership with leagues, promoters, host cities, or institutions.
